Great Vintage 15.3h 2022 TB Gelding
2 starts, RRP eligible. Retired sound / no vices.
Great Vintage came from some of our favorite connections, he is SLOW and not cut out to be a racehorse. He isn’t the tallest but does sport that overgrown pony look and has the most adorable head. Given he’s just three, I suspect he’ll grow a bit more and probably finish around 16h. He does sport a decent barrel and isn’t narrow. He is sweet and personable with a teenager twist. We’ve lightly restarted him and he’s not super complicated. Walk trot canter, just the basics of going forward, straight and starting to look for contact. We’ve started him over fences, he was willing and showed cute form. He’s easy to a jump and honest. We’ve started putting lines together and our rider notes for a young horse he’s very adjustable to the fence! He’s a naturally balanced sort with a great canter, making it easy over fences. Although we’ve mostly been focusing on flat work, we did throw him on the trailer and venture off property to Majestic Oaks to introduce him to the cross country course. He acted like a seasoned pro, loading easily, traveling quietly alone, unloaded great, stood for trailer side bucket mounting and walked off on a loose rein after several days off. He then proceeded to warmup on a loose rein happily meandering through the woods and taking everything in. He was curious and willing, schooling a variety of small fences, including ditches and the water! He was really just so easy and I’m not sure what more a person could ask from a three year old - BUT to top it all off, he schooled in great form and was tidy as could be over the fences. This kid is seriously made for an ammy.
We’ve given him a few months now to be a horse and adjust to farm life while lightly keeping him going under tack. At the moment he’s kept out with another gelding at night. He’s a typical kid in the field, likes to play with his friends! He’ll need someone with some basic young horse experience to remind him of the rules and boundaries, so not for a beginner. An experienced amateur working with a trainer or older teenager should be able to bring him along pretty easily. He is sweet and enjoys attention! I see him turning into your local show horse, trail riding partner, hunter paces, etc. He’s not going to light the competition scene on fire but has a cute way of going, honest jump and good brain. He’s the horse that most amateurs wanting to bring one along need - enough of a challenge but not so much that you have to worry about taking out a life insurance policy. Our rider says “definitely not fast or furious”. Just fun! 😂
