💕 Quirky upper level type looking for perfect fit. 💕
“Voltamour” I’ve owned this horse for two years now and can tell you about anything you need to know. He’s a 2017 gelding sired by Treasure Beach standing 16.3h that retired from racing in July of this year. During that time he frequently was cross training at the farm, he was lightly raced over the last two years due to being a turf horse (harder to find races for him). He came back to me in pretty horrific condition in July after being at the track for 3 months out of my care and I honestly had no intention of finding him another home. However, as he’s gained all of his condition (and more back) he’s made it quite clear - he ain’t done. He’s bored as can be, sound, healthy and needs employment. Voltamour is an upper level type, he is naturally uphill, athletic, has stamina for days and is brave / bold. If you’re the type of rider that’s going to ask me “does it spook, buck, etc” - you can just move along because yes, at some point in his life he’s done it and he’ll probably do it again. That said, when he’s in regular work and has a buddy in turnout he’s pretty manageable and it’s usually limited to just the occasional spook. Don’t think you’re going to put him back into work after months off without lunging it first (ask me how we know). He’ll stand like an angel to get on and walk off well, but you’re more likely than not to have a small happy rodeo at some point in the ride. Once he’s in regular 2-3 day a week work, lunging is not required.
He likes the finer things in life, thinks the world revolves around him (it does) and overall just is a horse that *knows* he’s stunning. He is personality on personality and every rider I’ve ever had working him ends up falling in love. Despite all of his quirks, he’s just one cool dude. He lives for apples, specifically cosmic crisp. He doesn’t like cold baths (god forbid!). He likes routine and is demanding about it. If I’m in the barn around 4 pm, he knows dinner is due and will scream at me until I oblige. If we are tacking up others and not him, he’s also yelling at me “ME NEXT!”
If you’re not running for the hills yet, let’s get to the good. He had a strong flatwork basis over these last two years. We also started him over fences. He was bold, brave and honest over jumps. He is a horse that will go all day. He loves to gallop, when he sees the track he lights up. I think, he’d like to be an event horse in his future career. But that’s not to turn away the dressage queens … he’s been working hard on that since officially retiring and is finding it quite mentally stimulating and fun! He has 8 rides post track now (mostly flat) and is having a blast. He is RRP eligible.
Voltamour is all about the thrills. If you ask him, he’s won the Kentucky Derby 3 times (he hasn’t, he was an OK racehorse but always came back to the barn like he won every start). He is BEYOND fancy, this guy oozes presence and is an above average mover.
He’ll go out alone or with a friend, he does like to play and is more manageable when he has company in the field. Oddly enough, he does best out with a filly. He gets led with and is respectful of a shank when he doesn’t have a turnout buddy. When he does have a buddy, he doesn’t need a shank. He’ll need an advanced rider or pro that’s quiet and can take a joke, if you’re not prepared to sit up there and laugh at his joyful expressions at time he probably ain’t for you.
I love this horse to death. I will be beyond particular about where he goes. He has no vices, currently shod up front and barefoot behind.
He’s located in Ocala FL.
If you’re still thinking “man that’s right up my alley” give me a call, I’m going to want to talk to you at length to insure this is the right fit for him. 5* home is of most importance.
